Send Roleplay Session assignments, completions, and reminders straight to learners as 1:1 Slack direct messages.
Slack notifications deliver Roleplay Sessions activity directly to each learner's Slack inbox as a 1:1 direct message. Learners get notified when a roleplay is assigned, when they complete one, and when an assignment is overdue — without leaving the tools they already use. Setup is a one-time authorization by an organization admin, after which messages are dispatched automatically.
What learners receive
Once Slack is connected, learners receive a 1:1 DM for each of the following events:
- On assignment — a DM with the roleplay title, thumbnail, and a link into Synthesia Learn App to get started.
- On completion — a DM confirming completion with a link to view results.
- Overdue reminders — up to three escalating reminders if a roleplay isn't completed by its due date: a first nudge 1 day overdue, a stronger reminder at 3 days, and a final reminder at 7 days. Each links straight back to the roleplay.
Permissions and scope
The Synthesia Slack notifications is outbound-only. It sends direct messages and looks up users by email — it does not read channels or message contents.

Connect Slack
As an organization admin in Synthesia:
- Go to the Learner Portal (learn.synthesia.io) → Manage → Integrations.
- Select Slack.
- Authorize the Synthesia Slack app for your workspace.
Once authorized, the integration is live and DMs are dispatched automatically on assignment, completion, and reminder events.
How learners are matched
Learners are matched to Slack users by email. The Synthesia app looks up each learner's email in your Slack workspace; if a match is found, that learner receives DMs. Notifications follow the learner's status in Synthesia — only active learners receive them.
Things to know
- No per-learner opt-out. If your org has Slack connected and a learner's email matches a Slack user, they receive DMs. There is no per-learner toggle.
- No notification preferences. Assignment, completion, and reminder DMs all fire together — learners can't subscribe to only one type.
- No digest or batching. Each event is its own DM, so multiple assignments at once means multiple DMs.
- Messages are read-only. Learners can't reply to the DMs; the app is outbound-only.
- Fixed reminder cadence. Reminders are sent at 1, 3, and 7 days overdue. The timing and number of reminders can't be changed.
- One workspace per organization. An admin can connect only a single Slack workspace.
- No custom message copy. Title, thumbnail, and CTA are templated and can't be customized.
