Assistant

Assistant helps you create better videos faster through an iterative, chat-based interface directly inside Synthesia.

📌

Assistant is available on Starter, Creator, and Enterprise plans. Using a brand kit with Assistant is an Enterprise-only feature.

🚧

Beta feature

This feature is in beta. Functionality and UI may change before general availability.

Assistant provides a more powerful, iterative approach to video creation alongside the existing AI Video Assistant. It guides you from your first script draft to the final video, helping new creators move faster and get better results without prior video expertise.

What you can do with Assistant

Use Assistant to:

  • Create videos from prompts and context: Start with a prompt, upload files (PDFs, PowerPoints, Word documents), add URLs, or combine all of them in a single request.
  • Choose your template — select any available template, including custom templates, to control the visual style and layout of your video.
  • Control delivery style — choose between Cinematic (shorter scenes, frequent cuts) or Presentation (longer, denser scenes) to match your content type.
  • Apply your brand kit — apply your brand's colors, fonts, and logo to motion graphics. (Enterprise only)
  • Iterate on your script and visuals through chat: Refine both script and visuals using natural language prompts like "make this shorter" or "make this more engaging."
  • Import scripts verbatim: Use a dedicated script import flow when you want your script respected exactly as written.
  • Get expert feedback: Ask Assistant for suggestions, like "How can I make this more engaging?" or "Act like a VP of learning and development. What would you change?"
  • Generate assets using stock styles: Assistant generates motion graphics, b-roll, images, and a-roll using stock styles, producing more consistent, polished visuals across your video.
  • Create motion graphics: Assistant can generate motion graphics as a dedicated asset type alongside b-roll and images. Note that asset generation can take a few minutes.
  • Work in Storyboard view: Use the simplified, macro-level Storyboard editor designed for script-level iteration, especially helpful for new creators.

B-roll generation initiated by Assistant does not consume credits for the time being.

Example of a strong prompt

"Create an onboarding video for new product managers at a fintech company. The goal is to explain our product development lifecycle and key collaboration tools. Keep the tone professional but friendly." The more relevant context you provide, the stronger your first draft will be.

Import a script

Use Import script when you have a finalized script you want Assistant to use without rewriting it.

  1. On the Home screen, select More, then Import script.
  2. Paste or type your script into the script field.
  3. (Optional) Select Upload files to add a script file.
  4. Under Style, choose your Delivery style, Template, and Brand kit.
  5. Submit your script to continue.

Review and refine in Storyboard

When you select Continue to editor, Assistant builds your video and opens it in Storyboard — a macro-level view where you can review and refine everything in one place:

Use the chat panel to iterate. For example, ask Assistant to:

  • Make the video shorter
  • Adjust the tone (for example, "Make this more executive")
  • Improve engagement
  • Rewrite specific scenes
  • Change visuals
  • Suggest improvements

Assistant can create and revise scripts, update visuals, generate images, and give feedback on how to improve your video.

Switch between editor views

To move between the macro-level Storyboard and the traditional scene-level editor, select Collapse. You can switch between the two at any time.

Considerations

The following considerations apply:

  • AI Video Assistant runs in parallel: Both Assistant and the AI Video Assistant are available. Creators restricted to custom templates should continue using the AI Video Assistant until custom template support is added to Assistant.
  • Asset generation time: Generating b-roll, motion graphics, and images can take a few minutes.
  • Feature scope: Assistant focuses on script and visual creation. It does not yet understand all Synthesia features end-to-end.
  • Conversation persistence: Your conversations with Assistant persist and are private to you. They are not shared with other workspace members.
  • No credit consumption: Assistant use does not consume credits.
  • Script markers: When editing scripts that contain animations or triggers, the Assistant may move these markers. You can manually reposition them as needed.

What's next

Assistant will continue to evolve with:

  • Quality improvements based on feedback.
  • Custom styles for deeper brand understanding.
  • Improved placement of animations and triggers when editing scripts.
