# Multilingual Video Player

Synthesia's video player handles translated videos, captions, chapters, and playback controls in a single embeddable player, on the share page or wherever the video is embedded.

## Player controls

* **Play/pause**
* **Volume**: a slider, plus a speaker icon to mute or unmute
* **Seeker**: hover over the seeker to see a preview frame for that point in time
* **Language**: switch between a video's available translations or dubs
* **Captions**: turn on or off. Captions default to off, with no way to set a different default, and are only available for the language the video is in (i.e. you cannot watch a Spanish video with English captions).
* **Content Credentials**: view the video's signed metadata (see [below](#content-credentials))
* **Speed**: 0.25x to 2x
* **Fullscreen**

On mobile devices, captions, language, speed, and Content Credentials are grouped behind a settings (cog) icon instead of appearing as separate controls.

## Switching between languages

If a video has been [translated](https://docs.synthesia.io/docs/video-translation) or [dubbed](https://docs.synthesia.io/docs/video-dubbing), viewers can switch between them from the player controls without leaving the page. When you share a link to a translated video, or a viewer accesses it from an embed or SCORM package, the player detects the viewer's browser language and serves the matching translation, if available.

## Content Credentials

Select the `cr` icon in the player controls at the bottom-right to view a video's Content Credentials—C2PA-signed metadata showing who signed the video and when. On mobile devices, access this from the settings (cog) icon instead.

## Accessing specific languages with URL query parameters

Set which language a video plays in by default using the `language` query parameter on its embed code or share link.

* If the parameter isn't set, the video plays in the viewer's browser language, if that language is available. Otherwise, it plays in its original language.
* If the parameter is set, the video plays in that language, if available. Otherwise, it plays in its original language.

### Set a specific language for a video embed

1. From the publish menu, copy the embed code.
2. In the `src` attribute of the `iframe` tag, change the value after `?language=` to the language you want (for example, change `?language=en` to `?language=es` to switch from English to Spanish).

```html
<div style="position: relative; overflow: hidden; aspect-ratio: 1920/1080">
  <iframe src="https://share.synthesia.io/embeds/videos/{video_id}?language=es" loading="lazy" title="Video Title" allowfullscreen allow="encrypted-media; fullscreen;" style="position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; top: 0; left: 0; border: none; padding: 0; margin: 0; overflow:hidden;">
  </iframe>
</div>
```

To have the player detect the viewer's browser language instead, remove the `?language=` parameter from the `src` URL entirely.

### Set a specific language for a video's share page

Add `?language=` followed by the language code to the end of the share link (for example, add `?language=fr` to default to French). To let the player detect the viewer's browser language instead, share the link without this parameter.

  ### Note:

  Language codes are listed on the [Supported languages](https://docs.synthesia.io/docs/supported-languages) page.
</Callout>

## Chapters

If a video is generated with chapters, the player timeline is divided into segments corresponding to each chapter, and a chapter's name appears when a viewer hovers over its segment. See [Chapters](https://docs.synthesia.io/docs/chapters) for how to create and edit them.

## Keyboard support

Once playback starts, every control in the player—play/pause, volume, captions, language, speed, and fullscreen—can be reached with `Tab` and operated with the shortcuts below.

  ### Note:

  In some embed contexts, the initial play button isn't reachable by `Tab` before playback starts. Use the `Space` or `k` shortcut to start playback in that case.

These work whether the video is playing from its share page or embedded elsewhere:
